Pseudo Training Log: November 15, 2009

Over the last month I have been continuing to let my knee and ankle recover. So far, they're doing pretty well and significantly better than they were a month ago. Unfortunately, I fear I may have to take off yet another month for them to be completely ready to go.

That said, training has not stopped. It still happens a minimum of 3 times a week, usually 4, and I am getting stronger. I'm excited to see what I'll be able to do when performing full movements at full speed.

As of yesterday Parkour club got 3 more people, and 1 more person has been training with me for the past two weeks. I think he'll stick with it for sure. The only vaults I've had to do are the ones I'm teaching him, but for the most part I observe and critique. He has a lot of promise, I'm excited to see how he performs in the future.

Pseudo Training Log: October 18, 2009

Training log information will continue to be minimal again, as I actually fear for my knees and ankle now. Whereas before I wanted to take it slow with vaults etc., I now have no choice. I am certain permanent damage will occur if I continue. Does this mean I'm going to stop training? Hell. No. It does mean I can only focus on upper body strength and flexibility, however.

Bad news out of the way, I spent some time at Iowa State University this weekend. While a few of my friends were busy tailgating before the football game, a friend and I went on an adventure around campus. The entire place is ridiculously awesome for Parkour, and I was elated to find out they have an active club there. The above paragraph is a result of the training I did at ISU, and how I'm feeling afterward. It was still a lot of fun though, and when I'm healed I can easily imagine spending a weekend down there doing nothing but Parkour. All the main buildings are built of concrete with a really modern aesthetic, which means good grip, lots of precisions, lots of catwalks, plenty of vaultable "walls", plenty of wall run walls, it's really just a giant playground for traceurs. We're thinking about going back down there later in the year. The goal will be to have recovered by then.

Pseudo Training Log: October 2-October 12, 2009

Training over the last week and a half has continued as normal. Mondays and Fridays I go to the park, Tuesday-Thursday I spend 45 minutes a day training at MCAD, and I train on the weekends when possible. My knee and ankle have been healing, the only pain I receive from them now is if I take a landing particularly hard or twist it funny. There's not much to report on skill improvement with an exception of the tic-tacs, which have vastly improved. I am now capable of making three quick steps on the wall. With enough speed, I can make two large ones and carry a fair amount of distance. I might even be able to make three, but the wall I have to train on isn't long enough to try.

Today ends my sixth month of training. It's hard to believe it's been that long, and even harder to realize I couldn't do so much as a speed vault when I started. Now I can do catwalks, QM, speed vaults, kong vaults in all three variations, lazy vaults, wall runs, tic-tacs, 360° turn vaults, top-outs, pop vaults, and precisions. I feel like I could get through almost any obstacle course with ease.

As a new challenge, I trained in the snow today. I don't know what the hell snow is doing on the ground on October 12, but it's here and I used it. The good news is I can do Parkour in full winter gear if I substitute winter boots for hiking boots. Today I did it in hiking boots, snow pants, winter jacket, gloves, and a face mask. The only thing I had to actually avoid were precisions and, as I found out rather quickly, the 6" beam run. All vaults were done without slipping, the 1" wall walk and 1" cat walk were unhindered. Top-outs were fine, QM was cold but fine. It was a lot of fun, and a good exercise in overcoming weather as an obstacle.

Training Log: September 30-October 1 2009

Training over the last two days has included:

- Upper Body Conditioning
- Wall QM
- Wall Run
- Tic-tac
- Top Outs

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail, just because there's not much to say. Not being able to do vaults sucks so much a prostitute would blush. I throw in a small lazy vault now and then just to keep myself sane while training, but my knee and ankle can't heal fast enough. I feel like the wall runs and tic-tacs aren't helping much, but there's no way the knee and ankle are sustaining as much force with those as they were with vaults. I don't know, I can't do upper body conditioning by itself for an hour. I'm not strong enough, and the exercises take too much out of my arms. But if I don't train for an hour, I feel lazy. So what am I supposed to do?

Training Log: September 25-29, 2009

Training over the last five days has included:

- Upper body conditioning
- QM
- Tic-tacs
- Cat Walk

Upper body conditioning:
There's actually a wide variety of exercises available to me while I avoid the knee. I still do my standard crunches (40-30-20) and elevated push-ups (20) each day, but I've added things like dips, this strange wall exercise where you hang your body off of it and move across only on your hands, dive-bomber push-ups, things like that. It's not vaulting, but it keeps me in shape.

QM:
This actually irritates my knee somehow, not sure why. As a result, I keep it pretty slow. Still doing it on the library ramp wall though, adds balance into the training.

Tic-tacs (horizontal wall run):
Attempted these, and trained these, for the first time today. I now regret it because they put a lot more stress on my knee than I thought they would, so it hurts again. It was still fun though, and I'm certain that once I've recovered I can have it down decently in a month tops. The hard part is figuring out how my feet need to be situated so the left foot can actually step on the wall and contribute instead of just slapping it. I think if I bend in the right leg more and quickly put down the left foot it should work better.

Cat Walk:
I left the Vibrams off today for the sake of babying my legs and feet, but it made the cat walk harder. My Filas don't have the grip on the rail my Vibrams do, and while I still made it up the rail I also fell twice (which I have never done on the Morrison railing before). This is definitely no good, and I'll have to continue training in the Filas to fix it. An observation: Rails are easier in the Vibrams, walls are easier in the Filas.

Training Log: September 21-23

Training over the past 3 days has included:

- Biking
- 1" Wall Walk
- 1" Cat Walk
- 6" Beam Run
- 8" QM Trot
- QM
- Wall Runs
- Kong Vaults
- Speed Vaults
- Lazy Vaults
- Precisions
- General Conditioning

Biking:
Yep.

1" Wall Walk:
Still easy as pie.

1" Cat Walk:
On the rink ledge it's still fine. There's a railing at MCAD around an inch in diameter that I've been trying to make it to the end of, but it's ridiculously hard. It's amazing the difficulty added when a mere half inch is removed. In front of Morrison on the thicker, angled rail I found out I can do the catwalk backward pretty easily.

6" Beam Run:
Didn't actually happen...whoops.

8" QM Trot:
This is fun. Monkey vault onto the library ramp wall and QM down the length of it. Great exercise.

QM:
Toss the waterbottle, throw my shirt at my feet, QM back and forth between the two from a QM walk, to trot, to gallop.

Wall Runs:
I'm learning how to utilize my left foot better. It's always hit the wall, but it's never actually been useful because I wasn't conscious of it. 7' walls are easy now because of it, and I get a lot more boost up the wall.

Kong Vaults:
Made it lengthwise over my first wooden table. Multiple times. I am now confident I can make it over the ones at Cherry View Park. It's really hard on the hands though, they felt bruised for awhile afterward.

Speed Vaults:
Low wall and picnic table. Nothing big.

Lazy Vaults:
Library ramp, rink wall.

Precisions:
Purple platform to 6" beam, block to block in front of the MIA.

General Conditioning:
2 mile run in the Vibrams resulting in blisters. 20 elevated push-ups daily.

General Notes:
My feet and knees are extremely pissed at me, especially after yesterday's 3 hours of training. I need to give them time to recover, legitimate time to recover. I'll have to look at upper body conditioning exercises on APK. It sucks to have to do it, but it's gotta be done or it's only going to get significantly worse.

Training Log: September 18, 2009

Training today included:

- Biking
- 1" Wall Walk
- 1" Cat Walk
- Rolls
- Landings
- 360° Underbars
- Precisions
- Sprint Vaults
- Lazy Vaults
- 6" Beam Run
- 1" Wall Squats

Biking:
I decided on something fun to do whenever I bike now. When I have enough momentum, particularly when going down slight slopes, I pedal backward at the same rate I would be pedaling forward. Not only does it help my legs get used to a wider range of motion, but I assume it looks really awkward to anyone who might see it.

1" Wall Walk:
Yep.

1" Cat Walk:
I didn't quite red line it today. Not a huge deal, I feel pretty comfortable with it at this point. By pretty comfortable, I mean really comfortable. Doing QM trots across the top of walls up to 9' high with concrete below will do that.

Rolls:
I only pulled off nine today. After the various attempts all week, my hip bone is pretty bruised. The solution to that would obviously be to stop landing on my hip. Fair enough, except it seems nearly impossible. I know it's not, because every once in awhile I pull it off, but I also know I'll hit it for 16/20 of my rolls during drills. I'd rather not suffer terrible pain whenever I do.

Landings:
10 off the bench, 5 off the purple platform.

360° Underbars:
10 at a standstill (it took me at least 15 tries to get 10 good ones), and 10 at a brisk walk. I struggled with these more than the last few times I've been at the park, I'm just over-thinking the technique.

Precisions:
Purple platform to 6" beam. Took 15 to make 10 without falling.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Speed, 5 Kongs, a traveling kong after each.

Lazy Vaults:
10.

6" Beam Run:
I was on that park perimeter for a very long time. I don't know how many laps I did, but I felt drenched in sweat when I decided to call it quits.

1" Wall Squats:
10, 7 without grabbing the pole for support.

Training Log: September 17, 2009

Training yesterday included:

- Speed Vaults
- Kong Vaults
- Wall QM
- Lazy Vaults
- Cat Walk
- Precisions
- General Conditioning
- Wall Runs

Speed Vaults:
Over the low wall.

Kong Vaults:
Practiced on the higher wall again, still a lot of fun to realize I can do it on walls that high.

Wall QM:
Monkey vault onto the wall top of the library ramp, trotting QM to the end of it. I'm sure it looks really strange to passerby, but it's really good for me. Coordination, balance, and strength training in one exercise.

Lazy Vaults:
Getting better with the left foot since I have to do them to efficiently get back off the library ramp after going over the wall.

Cat Walk:
Slanted rail in front of Morrison. Really easy work, but fun.

Precisions:
Blocks in front of the Target section of the MIA again. I probably shouldn't classify these as precisions considering the landing platform is so large, but they are fair sized gaps to be taking at a standstill with a two foot take-off and land.

General Conditioning:
20 elevated push-ups.

Wall Runs:
Getting much better at the top-outs, especially on the lower walls. I can currently make it up 6' with zero pause on the transition to the top. Really gratifying.

General Notes:
I keep forgetting to work on Tic-tacs at MCAD. The same stair walls in front of Morrison I use for wall runs provide the perfect surface for learning, that is, super rough with great grip. I'll be doing those on Tuesday for sure.

Training Log: September 16, 2009

Jesus, I really need to stop slacking off on this. What can I say? Life's very busy and writing this thing actually takes a fair amount of time. I'm not training any less, I'm just not posting about it.

Training today included:

- Rolls
- Kong Vaults
- Speed Vaults
- Precisions
- Landings
- Wall Runs
- QM
- Lazy Vaults
- General Conditioning

Rolls:
They hurt. Still. I dunno.

Kong Vaults:
Doing these legitimately with a two foot punch over chest high walls, and can do a two handed vault (swinging legs to the side) over shoulder high walls! Just need to work on it and that'll be between my arms too. Big news, that's a height record for me. Considering I've never konged anything higher than a picnic table before, I'm really proud.

Speed Vaults:
Still just doing these over the low walls. Seriously, that ramp structure at the MCAD library is ridiculously useful. 80% of my training today took place there. Since it's right in front of the main entrance I'm sure people think I'm showing off (took my shirt off for the first time at MCAD today, doubt that helped), but it's so useful I can't care. It's perfect.

Precisions:
Just across the blocks on the MIA.

Landings:
Down 4 steps, nothing serious.

Wall Runs:
Messed up my elbow on the top out for the tall wall. I really just need to work on the high ones more without getting to the top.

QM:
I'm loving a new routine...again at the ramp... monkey vault onto the wall, QM down the whole thing. Great exercise for coordination, balance, and strength.

Lazy Vaults:
Back over the wall after each vault.

General Conditioning:
Elevated push-ups and running.

Training Log: September 12, 2009

Training yesterday included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-Landings
-360° Underbar
-Precisions
-Sprint Vaults
-6" Beam Run
-1" Wall Squats

Biking:

1" Wall Walk:

1" Cat Walk:

Rolls:
More push with feet, more momentum, equals smoother roll.

Landings:

360° Underbar:
10 standing, 10 at a walk. Getting better.

Precisions:
I missed one, but I've decided it's a requirement to make 10.

Sprint Vaults:
10 Kong, 10 Speed, and a travelling Kong between each.

6" Beam Run:

1" Wall Squats:
These were harder than usual, but then again I don't think I've done them for a month. They'll get better again.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Training Log: September 11, 2009

Training yesterday included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Landings
-Rolls
-Precisions
-6" Beam Run
-360° Underbars
-QM

Biking:
Definitely felt the knee rehab on this one. For some reason it's not getting better, which is worrying. I wouldn't say it's getting any worse, but that doesn't make me any more comfortable. It doesn't hurt while walking, running, or moving. It only hurts when my knee's been bent for a period of time (like sitting in a chair) and I straighten it.

1" Wall Walk:
Still easy. Having not done it for over a week made me go slower, but I didn't have any problems.

1" Cat Walk:
Red line. At MCAD I've been cat walking rails much harder than this wall, so it was pretty easy as well.

Landings:
10 off the bench, 5 off the purple platform. I'm starting to feel a lot more control in my landings, they're getting increasingly more quiet. I suppose this shouldn't be surprising consider that's the point of these exercises, but it's still good to note.

Rolls:
These are still causing me so much trouble. I guess all I can do is keep drilling, but it's frustrating.

Precisions:
10 of them from the purple platform to the 6" beam. No failures. Felt great.

6" Beam Run:

360° Underbars:
Took me a bit to work up to where I was when last I did them, but I've got them down at a walk again. Excluding all the ones I had to do to get back up to that point, I did 10.

QM:
Came up with a new exercise for this. Set up two points in the field, do walking QM, then trotting QM, then gallop QM from one point to the next.

UPDATE: It's been awhile

Training over the last...week? has included:

-QM
-Speed Vaults
-Kong Vaults
-Wall Runs
-Rolls

QM:
Happened a lot at the cabin, tried to stay away from drops. I've learned how to go full gallop now, and I can keep up with my cousin running when he has a beer in his hand he's trying not to spill. I also chased a dog around the yard a bunch. It doesn't feel awkward anymore, but it's still a lot of work.

Speed Vaults:
Over a table and a 4' wall. No specific numbers.

Kong Vaults:
Also over a table and that 4' wall.

Wall Runs:
I've found I really enjoy the 5'-6' walls. It's a fun pop over the top, and it's a good drill for flow.

Rolls:
Did these on carpet covered concrete. I've still got quite a ways to go, I need to tuck tighter.

General Notes:
After the cabin I basically went through hell for 3 days. Stayed at school overnight with an hour of sleep to get work done, it's been rough. Monday-Wednesday saw no Parkour at all. The cabin saw pretty much just QM up and down stairs and through a yard. MCAD Parkour has finally gotten off the ground, had our first meeting today. Only two people signed up, but we've got another possibility on the way. The person in charge of clubs happened to find us training on a picnic table and filmed us, then posted it to the MCAD activity site. That's generated some positive feedback. At the very least, people are interested in watching even if they're not participating. That's a start. Tomorrow will see my first hard training session in over a week.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Training Log: September 2, 2009

Training today included:

-Top Outs
-Monkey Vaults
-Wall Runs
-Lazy Vaults
-Cat Walk
-QM
-Precisions

Top Outs:
Still hard. Seeing as I posted yesterday's entry not 3 minutes ago, it can be assumed I'm having the same problem today as before.

Monkey Vaults:
Some friends came out to watch me today, one had me monkey onto a low wall over his head multiple times. It was good practice since I'm used to doing them right next to the edge, and I couldn't with him in the way.

Wall Runs:
Did two big ones (10'?) and a lot of 7'>. I can get on top of the 10' walls, but it's slop. Again it comes down to how shaky my technique is when I get to the top. Getting my hands up really isn't an issue, but getting into the position with the climb up where the top out is possible is really difficult. I just end up using my forearms, which is really bad form. This will be worked on, of course.

Lazy Vaults:
Same reason as before, they have to be done to get back over the wall without walking down the ramp.

Cat Walk:
Up the Morrison railing four times. Really easy. I've found that while the Vibrams may make it more difficult to do cat walks on the flat rails like the hockey rink, they make round rails a piece of cake.

QM:
Walked up and down the 10" wall I do lazies over a few times.

Precisions:
Again, out in front of the Target portion of the MIA. 15 across the blocks, nice and easy.

Training Log: September 1, 2009

Training yesterday included:

-Top Outs
-Wall Runs
-Cat Walk
-Precisions
-Landings
-Lazy Vaults

Top Outs:
These are getting increasingly easier. My feet come up between my hands almost 100% of the time. The problem is getting into the position to do them, especially with high walls. After watching a tutorial as I type this, I think that's going to take a lot of practice. That's the next step. He claims it's 50% strength, 50% technique, but whenever I've tried them it seems like so much effort. I'll try them tomorrow, we'll see.

Wall Runs:
Concentrated on doing the small ones in addition to grabbing the ledge from the top and turning into a top out position. I feel really comfortable with walls 7' high and under, I think the transition to the top is pretty smooth. As far as the turn grab is concerned, eventually I'm going to have to be able to do that from a standing position. From sitting is no problem, but I tried them at a crouch and it was really hard. Didn't manage even one.

Cat Walk:
Up a sloped railing. I don't know if I'll ever go down one facing forward, that seems to be a quick way to break my neck.

Precisions:
Jumping from block to block in front of the Target portion of the MIA. Big blocks, nothing strenuous. I'm really getting the feel for absorbing the impact by having my feet in front of my body though.

Landings:
10 onto concrete, short and sweet.

Lazy Vaults:
These aren't being drilled, but I have to do them to get off the library ramp. It's good practice though because the wall off the ramp is waist high and around 10" thick. Takes a little more effort to get the legs over, especially the left one (which is what I have to do).

Monday, August 31, 2009

Training Log: August 31, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Landings
-360° Underbar
-Precisions
-Kongs

Biking:
Knee rehab.

1" Wall Walk:
Still went pretty quickly, even though I'm in the Vibrams again. The trick is to step exactly in the middle of the foot so my heel makes full contact and my outside toes can grip the wall.

1" Cat Walk:
I didn't even blue line it tonight, my shoulder couldn't take it.

Landings:
10 off the bench, 5 off the purple platform.

360° Underbar:
10 from a stand-still, 10 at a walk. Pretty easy, I just have to make sure I'm not losing my form. I feel like I'm not turning enough before I bring my legs through. As long as I'm making it I should be happy, form can improve later, but it's something to keep an eye on.

Precisions:
10 from the purple platform to the 6" Beam. I've gotten worse since before, but I've got three days with no training so it's understandable.

Kongs:
Worked on getting over the long end of the table today. Closest I got was 3" from the edge at a jog. That tells me at full sprint, I could clear it. Problem is, going full sprint at that thing would be effing terrifying. It's scary just jogging at it. I'll keep working at it each day, just like I did the first time I ever made it over the short way. Someday soon, that table will be completely conquered.

General Notes:
Took three days off to let my body heal up. Bum knee, bum shoulder, two bum shins, a bruised toe...not okay. As of now the toe is good enough to let me wear the Vibrams again. The knee is...well not great, but it doesn't hurt as much as it did? The shoulder's definitely not okay...but it only hurts with some pretty specific motions. Like push-ups. Really anything my arms have to push down on (but it doesn't hurt with the Kongs?). I believe the left shin is bruised on the muscle, it hurts a little when tensed. The other shin was injured farther up, so that's not caused any problems. It hasn't even hurt at all, I'm just assuming it's not healed yet.

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Training Log: August 27, 2009

Training today included:

-Wall Runs
-Traceur Vision
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-Landings
-Top Outs
-6" Beam Run
-1" Wall Squats
-General Conditioning

Wall Runs:
They're getting much easier, more fluid with each attempt.

Traceur Vision:
Just ran around MCAD and the MIA garden doing stuff. Did some precisions in front of the Target wing, konged a few tables, monkey vaulted onto a terrace or two, pop vaulted off of benches onto walls, lazy vaults on top of walls, etc.

!" Wall Walk:

1" Cat Walk:
I blue lined it today. I'm not disappointed though, MCAD left me really tired.

Rolls:
20 again. The rolls are smoother when I place my hands closer to my feet and push off. Again, I think they're improving.

Landings:
10 off the bench, 5 off the purple landings.

Top Outs:
Did it at MCAD and on the 1" Wall. I don't know why the rink wall is so much more difficult. Maybe it's because I can't use my fingertips on the wall and have to grip it instead.

6" Beam Runs:
Don't know how many laps I did for these, but I did it for quite awhile. Maybe 6? I don't know.

1" Wall Squats:
10, again I only had to touch the pole for balance once.

General Conditioning:
20 dive-bombers, non-stop. Three days of not doing it seemed to improve my muscles. 40-30-20 crunches.

General Notes:
I was unable to come up with a working routine for MCAD. With more time I might be able to come up with something...with getting more comfortable I might be able to come up with something. I could have done rolls there, but would have looked ridiculous. I could have done QM on the 12" wall in the MIA garden and on the library ramp, but I would have looked ridiculous. I could have done my general conditioning, but I would have looked ridiculous. I don't know why I feel that way about training on campus, but have no qualms with doing it at CVP. Maybe it's just because I've trained there for four months, who knows? I sent an email to the person in charge of clubs yesterday about getting MCAD Parkour started, I have yet to get a response. I've even drafted a disclaimer and agreement for members to sign, I'm really serious about getting this going.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Training Log: August 26, 2009

Training today included:

-Top Outs
-Wall Runs
-Kong Vaults
-Cat Walk

Top Outs:
Getting much smoother. Soon my legs will tuck completely between my arms without needing to lift one up, especially on the thick walls.

Wall Runs:
Did another high one today. The top out was sloppy and a little slow, but it still felt good to try a wall that at a glance still looks insurmountable.

Kong Vaults:
New record distance! Did the length of the MIA tables in the garden. I think they're slightly smaller than the wood ones, but now I'm willing to at least try it again. Friday it will happen.

Cat Walk:
Did it up the railing in front of Morrison, it was pretty easy going up. I think going down I'd break my neck, but it has to be attempted eventually.

General Notes:
Ryan came with today, going to try and get a MCAD Parkour club going.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Training Log: August 25, 2009

Training today included:

-Top Outs
-Wall Runs
-Rolls

Top Outs:
It was good to find out I can now easily get on top of the thick walls with no hesitation. On the smaller ones, I don't even stop to get a foot on it. I just jump over after the first tac.

Wall Runs:
These took up the majority of my time. I'm starting with the smaller ones for now, small being between 7'-9', and ramping myself up for the big guy at the top of the stairs on Morrison. After getting up, I had to get down again. That's where the

Rolls:
came in. The grass at MCAD is really, really soft though. As a result I had no pain, but I don't know how good the roll was either, lol.

General Note:
I've really only got 45 minutes for training on school days. That's a really short amount of time. I was right, it does feel really awkward training with all those people around. I feel like they'll get the wrong impression, as if I were trying to show off. Especially when I'm running up the same wall they just took the stairs or ramp to get to the top of. Then I have to go to class all hot and sweaty. I remembered a change of clothes, and I'll be bringing deodorant with me, but it still feels pretty gross. Part of it was definitely the heat, 'cause I didn't want to take my shirt off. If that wouldn't solidify the "show off" feeling, I don't know what would have. The thing is, doing kongs (vaults period, really) over and over doesn't have that feeling. It just seems like you're drilling movement. But drilling wall-runs is...I dunno, a little more showy? Same with cat walks. I'm sure I'll adjust, especially because I have a friend here who used to do Parkour and I'm trying to get to train during that time slot. If he joins in, I won't feel so awkward. Time will tell. Tomorrow I go to the MIA garden and see what can be done there in addition to MCAD's main area.

Monday, August 24, 2009

Training Log: August 24, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-360° Underbars
-Landings
-6" Beam Run
-Precisions
-General Conditioning
-1" Wall Squats

Biking:
Flat tires still. I really need to get on that and inflate them properly.

1" Wall Walk:
I've been babying myself, it's going to be rough when I switch back to the Vibrams.

1" Cat Walk:
Red line, as usual. It still takes so much out of me it's ridiculous. Someday I'll make it to the end of that damn wall.

Rolls:
20 of them. I think I have to exit at 90° to avoid hitting my hip bone, more practice will tell. If so, it really sucks. It's better to lose some momentum and have to work harder than to destroy my bones, but it's still a slight disadvantage. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.

360° Underbars:
Turns out I just had to use my arms more. Getting through at a stand-still is easy now, just need to work on momentum fear.

Landings:
I'm really pleased with my progress on these. I can feel how much more control I have than I did even a week ago. I can only imagine what it will be like doing these every day for a month.

6" Beam Run:
I went for a long time today. Dunno how many laps.

Precisions:
I'm also happy with my progress on these. They feel easy and natural now (a mere what, three days later?), I only fell 2 out of 10 times jumping from the purple platform onto the 6" beam.

General Conditioning:
13 dive-bombers, 4 hindus, 10 palm towards, 5 palm away, 10 dips, 40-30-20 crunches.

1" Wall Squats:
10. Only had to steady myself on the pole twice.

General Note:
Starting tomorrow, all Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday training will be during my lunch hour at school. I simply don't have time otherwise. I'm really nervous about training at MCAD while school is actually in session. Dealing with parents at a park is one thing, dealing with peers is quite another. Not to mention it's all on concrete now and my roll's not done. We'll see what happens.

Biking:

1" Wall Walk:

1" Cat Walk:

Rolls:
20 of them, I think they're improving from before. 20 every day and I should improve quickly.

Landings:
10 off the bench, 5 off the purple things. They are definitely getting quieter, and I'm gaining a lot more control.

360° Underbars:
I don't know why these are so difficult for me. I can make it, but they're really close. I assume they'll get better over time, as everything has, but the beginning stage is still kind of nerve-wracking considering I bruised my ass-cheeks on day one.

6" Beam Run:

General Conditioning:
15 Dive-bombers, 2 Hindus, 10 palm away, 6 palm forward

Precisions:
10 from the purple things to the 6" beam. I won't do them back the other direction until the shins are healed again.

General Note:
It seems like every other day now someone asks me what I'm training for. It feels really good to have people's first impressions of Parkour be safe ones. What I'm doing isn't how the media or YoutTube tends to portray it. It's not some extreme, cocky show, it's dedicated training involving balance and coordination and a friendly/approachable face. It's how it should be. Side note: I'm angry I forgot to do the wall squats. Those are fun.

Biking:

1" Wall Walk:

1" Cat Walk:
Fell off twice...three times? Twice. In the end I blue lined it, was just too fatigued to keep going.

Rolls:
The first ones were terrible, but I did many of them. By the end they felt decent again, and I think I was avoiding my left shoulder. I'm really, really hoping to have the concrete rolls down by this time next month. Latest. So that means drilling them for a long time every day.

360° Underbar:
I'm now clearing it, which is great. It's not every time, but it's fairly consistent. I'll keep drilling them at a standing position, then move to some momentum. It feels really good to be trying something new again, breaking up the regimen some.

6" Beam Run:

General Conditioning:
20 Dive-bombers, 6 pull ups each way, 20 dips, 6 push ups with hand claps behind the head.

1" Wall Squats:
These are still a lot of fun, and still take a lot of concentration. 10 of them.

Precisions:
I made a jump I thought I was incapable of multiple times. The last time I did it though, my left foot slipped and I effed up my shin again. Poor thing's taken so many injuries. I posted about the bumps developing on them from the bad ones at apk, we'll see what they have to say about it.

Downpour Training:
It's everything I thought it would be and more. Unfortunately as of yesterday I swore to give me knee time to recover, which means no vaulting for awhile. Over the past month or so I've found that when my knee stays bent for long periods of time, it hurts to straighten it. That's not okay. So I didn't get to vault in the rain today, but everything else was a lot of fun.

1" Wall Walk:
Quick and easy.

1" Cat Walk
Equally quick and easy.

Landings:
10 of them off the bench. Getting quieter. Then again, it could have been the sound of POURING RAIN MUFFLING IT.

360° Underbar:
Just worked on getting my leg up a whole bunch of times.

6" Beam Run:
Ran a few laps.

Top Outs:
13 of them over the rink wall. Getting smoother, I'm excited to try it on a real wall.

General Conditioning:
10 Dive-bomb push-ups, 7 Hindu push-ups, 10 palm away pull ups, 3 palms toward pull ups.

Wall Squats:
These made me feel ridiculously cool in the rain. It's balancing on the wall and doing squats without falling over. I managed 10 with a few post touches to keep me on, fell off once.

"You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddy!"

1" Cat Walk:
Given the speed I can move with this now, I should really be pushing myself farther than the red line. It does take a lot out of me to move at that speed though.

Rolls:
4 sets of 5 again, crouch to QM. Given the wet grass, I was able to see where my roll is going. I still need improvement, because my left shoulder is getting some of the impact. It's not going right down my spine, which is good, but it's not going exactly where it should either. I think I've always known that, I've just kind of ignored it.

Landings:
10 of them off the bench seat onto cement, 5 off the bench back onto cement, all trying to land as quietly as possible to gain leg strength.

Kongs:
Nothing special today. Just 15.

Speeds:
I've never gone with as much speed as I did today. I know for a fact it is not possible for me to have approached any faster than I did. Really scary, really thrilling.

Lazies:
15. Nothing special.

General Conditioning:
17 dive-bomber push-ups, 15 pull-ups, 40-30-20 crunches, 20 dips, as many squats balancing on the wall as I could muster. I think those squats are going to be really enjoyable, I'm excited to keep those up. Fun and challenging.

6" Beam Run:

Training yesterday included:

-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-Landings
-Kongs
-Speeds
-Lazy Vaults
-General Conditioning
-6" Beam Run

1" Wall Walk:
I'm going to miss being able to move with this speed when I go back to Vibrams.

1" Cat Walk:
I can go really fast with these now, and it feels great.

Rolls:
4 sets of 5 from crouch to QM position. I feel like doing them in quick succession forces me into good form since I immediately feel what I did wrong and have to correct it for the next roll.

Landings:
10 jumps off the bench landing as quietly as possible. I bent far too much at Superior, which tells me my legs aren't strong enough to handle concrete drops yet.

Kongs:
I did 15 distance Kongs, putting my backpack out in front of the table and forcing myself to leave early. I think I added between 1.5'-2' to the jump. I feel like it's plateaued though, because no matter how much I put into it I couldn't get more distance. Eventually, of course, I'm going to have to get more distance. Pretty sure it's going to take a lot of time though.

Speeds:
15

Lazy Vaults:
15

General Conditioning:
Dive-bomber push-ups, pull-ups, dips, crunches.

6" Beam Run:

Training Log: August 12-17

Effing big update, it's been a long time since the last one. I have an excuse from the 13-17, I'm not what happened with the 12. I don't even remember what I did. Oh wait! Yes I do. I kicked my ass again.

August 13:
Night training, which was kept easy and minimal. It's terrifying to vault tables in the dark. I am positive I would have failed each and every time if it weren't complete muscle memory. Depth perception is absolute crap out there in minimal light. Still, I managed kongs and speeds over the table. Then a few lazies in the better lit rink area.

August 14-15:
Le Methode Naturelle! Bouldering, rock running, waterfall climbing, and swimming in Lake Superior/Temperance River. Honestly there weren't many Parkour "moves" utilized aside from landings and a few monkey vaults onto rocks, but it was still fun.

August 17:
-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-15 Kongs
-15 Speeds
-15 Lazies
-Upper Body Conditioning

As of tomorrow, updates will be back on schedule and detailed.

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Lazy Vaults
-Kong Vaults

Biking:
To North Park.

1" Wall Walk:
Happened.

1" Cat Walk:
Also happened. I dunno, there's not really any way to mark progress at North Park. Next time we go I'm going to put together an actual routine for the place so we're not aimlessly doing things.

Lazy Vaults:
These are still good to practice there. Going back and forth over railings that increase in height is excellent practice. Got a record left footed height today, which felt great. They're getting much, much easier.

Kong Vaults:
I steadily increased my dive distance at these. I gained an additional... 1.5-2'? I don't really know. I'll have to bring a ruler with to measure next time.

Overall this session just put a bad taste in my mouth, I don't know why. Maybe it's because when the kids joined us they weren't taking it seriously enough? For instance, one of them I was trying to teach the Kong because he really wanted to know how. Instead of following directions, he just skipped steps. Then they started taking really high drops and making it sound like a stunt show. It's not that Parkour and Freerunning isn't about fun...in the end I think that's a big part of it aside from the physical benefits. But if you don't take it seriously there are going to be bad injuries...

-1" Cat Walk
-2lb Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Pass
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning
-Distance Kongs

1.5 Mile Walk:
Not to become a regular thing, but I took the puppies out on a walk. Before training.

Biking:
This never gets easier on the way back, probably because I keep pushing myself harder. Makes sense.

1" Wall Walk:
Hauled ass again in the Filas.

1" Cat Walk:
Fastest yet, red lined in the Filas.

2lb Vaults:
Thinking of upping these to 2.5. 10 Speeds, 10 Kongs, 10 Lazies.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs.

Hell Pass:
31. I think I'm starting to reach my plateau, which sucks because I would love to be able to make 50 of them. The reason I believe I'm at this point is that immediately after, with the

6" Beam Run:
I fell during my third lap. I never realized how much the hell pass takes out of me until this happened. I slipped, which happens some times, but were it not for QM training I would have just collapsed and that would have been it. My endurance is still increasing, but I'm worried about my muscles. Maybe I just need a little more recovery time between each.

General Conditioning:
Managed 10 of both kinds of pull-ups for the first time. 20 table push-ups. 40-30-20 crunches.

Distance Kongs:
Tried to get additional distance after the table punch, and realized I have no effing clue how to go about it. I can add speed, and that helps, but I'm gotta be missing something.

Training Log: August 8-9, 2009

Training over the last two days included:

-Paintball (>.>)
-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-2lb Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Pass
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning

Paintball:
It's the reason I didn't have time to train yesterday. It was a good test of endurance, however, and while I didn't use Parkour while in battle I still tried vaults with the gear on. I am fully capable of speed vaulting a picnic table in full camo, a paintball mask, and with a paintball gun in my left hand. You'd think it would have been the perfect place to use Parkour, except when the enemy has cover and is just waiting for you to move, it's not very prudent to start jumping the barriers between you and them.

Biking:
Yep.

1" Wall Walk:
Cruised it with my Filas.

1" Cat Walk:
Also hauled ass to the red line.

Rolls:
I'm trying to iron out the fore-arm use, it actually feels a lot better and it's a minor adjustment to use my hand instead.

2lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs. Traveling Kongs after each Kong and Speed.

Hell Pass:
Did 30 of them today to make up for my slacking and lack of hard training over the last few days. Then I did 10 more because again, I felt I did them a little too slow. Just to ensure I can pull off the 31 tomorrow. At this point I was sweating in places I didn't know it was possible to sweat, like my shins. Who the hell sweats enough to soak their pants on their shins? Seriously, I don't think I've ever been so hot in my life.

6" Beam Run:
Happened.

General Conditioning:
By the time I got to these I was pretty destroyed. But I still did 10 pull-ups palms towards me, 6 palms away, 20 table push-ups. Tonight is the standard 40-30-20 crunches.

Pseudo Training: August 5-6, 2009

Pseudo training consisted of a few things over the past two days. First Matt and I went to North Park, where we actually drilled lazy vaults pretty hard. Then we lined up some picnic tables and started to chain vault when I noticed the kids from last time we went. I asked them if they wanted to come train, they said yes, so we showed each other what we were capable of. As it turned out, none of them had done any kind of formal training but sounded sincerely interested. So, we ended up teaching them a new kong take-off, speed vaults, and proper rolls. Then I directed them to americanparkour.com, we'll see if it was any help next time we go. Ended it with hell passes, got my 25.

Yesterday we went to Minneapolis to get Matt some Vibrams and just ended up messing around downtown. Parked at MCAD, did a little bit there, then walked into the business district to find the pipe organ. Prognosis? Effing. Awesome. I got a personal record wall run in, and there's just a lot of stuff to train on. Railings, stairs, walls, sculpture...soooo cool. Now I want to get my rolls down more than ever, because it definitely stopped me from doing a few things.

Right now it's raining out, which I thought was a great opportunity until I saw that it was 62° outside. I'll pass on hypothermia. The temp usually peaks at around 3 though, so if it's 68° or warmer I'm definitely training in the pouring rain.

Training Log: August 4, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-2lb Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Pass
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning
-Landings

Biking:
Yeap.

1" Wall Walk:
Really, really easy today. For the first time I walked the length of it completely normal, as if walking on the ground with my hands swinging at my sides. Felt great.

1" Cat Walk:
Hauled ass with these today, red lined it in no time.

Rolls:
Something changed between yesterday and today, because they don't feel as good as they did. It'll just take more drilling I guess. It's frustrating, because every time I think I'm ready for concrete my rolls hurt again.

2lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. The lazies were really hard today for some reason, not sure why.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs. Best ones yet, felt great.

Hell Pass:
I wasn't sure if I needed to do 23 or 24 today, so I did 24. Then, to ensure I could make 25 tomorrow, I did 10 more after a short break.

6" Beam Run:
Yep.

General Conditioning:
10 palms away, 8 palms forward, 20 push-ups, 40-30-20 crunches.

Landings:
10 6" Beam jumps again, much easier today.

Monday, August 3, 2009

Training Log: August 3, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-2lb Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Pass
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning
-Landings

Biking:
On the way back from the park today, I attempted what I recently read in an article and screamed at the top of my lungs 10 seconds prior to physical exertion. It's supposed to make your performance peak by creating stress and initiating part of the fight or flight response. I dunno if it actually worked, but I did make it up the hill faster.

1" Wall Walk:
This was much faster with shoes on instead of Vibrams.

1" Cat Walk:
These were also faster. Also, and this is off topic, but we were doing underbars for a short while today and now my butt cheeks are bruised. Sitting right now hurts T_T

Rolls:
I found that keeping my left leg at a 90° angle and rolling on the blade of my foot instead of the heel results in a smoother, faster roll. I'll have to watch out for knee impact, but I believe I can avoid it if I stiffen my foot.

2lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. It's more the socks that stop the pain than wearing shoes, but seeing as I have no socks for the Vibrams (and I won't) I'll just stick with the shoes. Attempted a variation (or rather, the correct way) of the kong split-foot take-off today, keeping the hop minimal and low to the ground. Momentum was retained much better, and a lot more height was gained.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Kongs, 5 Speeds, 5 Lazies.

Hell Pass:
I did 22 today, and didn't feel like dying. Could it be because I gave my body a day to rest? Perhaps. That said, I probably won't feel so great tomorrow.

6" Beam Run:
Happened.

General Conditioning:
10 palm forward pull-ups, 5 palm away pull-ups, 20 push-ups with feet on an elevated surface, 40-30-20 crunches.

Landings:
Did these on the 6" Beams to help with precisions, landing as quietly as possible after a full tuck. Really challenging work.

-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-2lb Vaults
-Speed Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Pass
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning
-Landings

Biking:
This was terrible on the way home, the wind was God awful.

1" Wall Walk:
A challenge with the crosswind, but I didn't fall and made good time.

1" Cat Walk:
Blue lined it. I'll be taking a rest day tomorrow to let my muscles build again, it's been a rough week.

2lb Vaults:
I only did 10 Kongs with these, because the weights finally cut into my ankles and made them bleed. The choice then is to either wear my running shoes and switch to vibrams after, or just not do them. I've got a day to think about it.

Speed Vaults:
10

Lazy Vaults:
10

Sprint Vaults:
5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs.

Hell Pass:
Made my 21, but I've never felt so terrible in my life. Every single vault after 15 was stressful, just thinking I'd clip my feet and be done for. 22 seems impossible.

6" Beam Run:
Happened.

General Conditioning:
10 palms away, 8 palms facing, 40-30-20 crunches.

Landings:
10 tuck-and-lands as softly as possible.

Training Log: July 31, 2009

Training yesterday included:

-Racketball (>.>)
-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-2lb Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Pass
-Rolls
-6" Beam Run

Racketball:
Okay, so it's not Parkour, but 2 hours of it was one hell of a cardio workout. Not to mention I got there only to be greeted by a sign that said "no black soled shoes," and I was in hiking boots. So I played barefoot on wood floor. My feet still burn, but I built up callous so no complaints. And it was a shit-load of fun.

Biking:
Happened. I seriously do need to pump the tires properly one of these days.

1" Wall Walk:
Faster.

1" Cat Walk:
I didn't even blue line it. I'm using the racketball as a valid excuse, my legs were destroyed.

2lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Lazies, 10 Speeds. Still cut into my ankles.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs, and 10 non-sprint Traveling Kongs to get back over the table.

Hell Pass:
I could only do 11. I'm going to blame that on the racketball, and the fact I was running on a bowl of cereal and a smoothie all day. Of course, this meant I had to do 11 more since I didn't make the 21.

Rolls:
I hurt myself a lot.

6" Beam Run:
Happened

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Training Log: July 30, 2009

Video link from yesterday's taping here (thanks for manning the camera Laura!):

Training today included:

-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-2lb Vaults
-Sprint Vaults
-Hell Passes
-Traveling Kongs
-6" Beam Run
-Rolls
-Landings
-General Conditioning

1" Wall Walk:
Picking the speed back up to how it was before. I dunno why I was slowing down.

1" Cat Walk:

I failed at making the red line today, 2 posts away. My muscles just couldn't take it anymore, perhaps that's the result of not really doing them for four days straight? I could barely do it yesterday too. Guess I'll be building back up.

2lb Vaults:

10 Speeds, 10 Kongs, 10 Lazies. Still easy, but they're harder in the Vibrams. I've found the weight band digs into the top of my feet. I'm just going to deal with the pain because I don't really feel it while doing vaults, but I have to keep the abrasions in mind. 2lbs also puts a lot more pressure on the vault landings, and it's causing me to land differently. I'm sure this will fix itself as I adjust to the weight more, but it's another thing to watch.

Sprint Vaults:

5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs. I'm more prone to stutter-stepping with the additional speed, I'm going to need to iron that out.

Hell Passes:
Made 20 today to make up for the last few days. Excluding time at the cabin, it's where I should have been. And then I did 5 more after a rest just for good measure, because I felt like I might have been doing them a little too slowly. I still never stopped moving, but I know I could have gone faster.

6" Beam Run:
Happened. These are getting increasingly faster and easier. I've found if I don't lift my feet so much in the run and turn it more into a glide, it's easier.

Rolls:
These are getting better. Keep the legs tucked, roll over the shoulder, and stay tucked for longer than it feels like I should. The momentum carries so much better and allows me to use my hands on the roll-out. I feel like the rolls are much improved by running and jumping off the table, the speed forces me into good form.

Landings:
I know it's been a long time since I drilled these, but I felt like I should still continue. Just did ten jumps in the air, landing as quietly as possible. It's a hell of a workout too.

General Conditioning:

10 pull ups palms away, 8 pull ups palm towards me, 20 push-ups with feet on the table bench, 40-30-20 crunches.

Training Log: July 28-29, 2009

I've gotten lazy with the updates! I won't go into detail, but here are some highlights from the past two days of training:

-I learned doing Parkour immediately after a full stomach is a terrible idea. I only made the kong-to-speed rotations (from here on out called "Hell Passes") 10 times, and clipped my feet four times. This, of course, meant I had to do 10 more since I didn't get the required 18.

-2lb weights are harder on landings, so I'll definitely be sticking with them for now.

-Laura recorded Matt and I today for critique videos, which have been created and are uploading as I type this. I'll edit the post and link them in the morning.

-The Vibrams are good and broken it. It's great to have them on my feet again.

Training Log: July 24-27, 2009

Training over the weekend and yesterday included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-2lb Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations

I won't go into detail since none of it was very regimented, but I'll cover some of the highlights. I konged and speed vaulted my biggest table yet, a taller and wider picnic table than ever before (and it was easy). I got 17 kong-to-speed rotations. I'm no longer terrible at left footed lazies (though they do need work). And I got a new pair of Vibrams I'm breaking in. That is all.

Training Log: July 23, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-2lb Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Sprint Vaults

Biking:
On my way to the park today more skater punks decided to jeer at me as I passed Cherry View. This would be number 2 from one particular kid who called me a "fag" before and I ignored it. This time it was a, "Hey. HEY. GET A LIFE." So I turned my bike around, whipped off my helmet, and we had a short conversation in which I asked if he had a problem. I also said one of these days he was going to insult the wrong guy. Someone who couldn't control their temper, and would beat the living shit out of him, and that he was lucky I wasn't that person. We'll see if he does it again, and if he does...well, maybe I'll have to be that person. Only time will tell.

1" Wall Walk:

Yep.

1" Cat Walk:
Red line.

2lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. It was still really easy, but I think I'll keep it at 2 for awhile just the same.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

Made the 16. To think, at first I could only do 5. That's an improvement of 22 total vaults, it's hard to believe I can do 32 now. I'm not looking forward to Monday, because I'm fairly certain I won't be able to do that many. I'll have to work up again.

Sprint Vaults:
5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs. I tried just jumping over the table today instead of doing a straight Speed Vault. It was stupid easy. I'm still going to keep putting my hand down just so I'm not out of practice for different obstacles, but there it is.

Training Log: July 22, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Traveling Kongs
-Sprint Vaults
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning
-Rolls

Biking:

FALCONE--PAUNCH! >.>

1" Wall Walk:

Happened.

1" Cat Walk:

I fell off today. A lot. Sometimes after 2 steps. In the end I did make it to the red line, but it was still frustrating. Not sure how I was so off my game.

1.5lb Vaults:

10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. I forgot to increase the weight again. They were still easy.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
New PR, as per my rules. 15 today.

Traveling Kongs:

Still fun, still easy. Matt made it over the table with these kitty-corner today, I'll have to give that a try.

Sprint Vaults:

5 Lazies, 5 Speeds, 5 Kongs. Still a lot of fun, though I don't think I need to put my hand down on the Speed vaults going that fast...I barely tap it. I'll probably keep doing it just because it make me feel safe and doesn't hurt my speed, but there it is.

6" Beam Run:
I accidentally a coke bottle...is that bad?

General Conditioning:
ha-CHA!

Rolls:
I finally nailed it today, or at least...close. I barely felt the roll, turns out I just needed to stay tucked longer. It solved both my shoulder and hip bone impact issues.

Training Log: July 21, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Sprint Vaults

Biking:
Mhmm.

1" Wall Walk:

Really relaxing today, just took my time.

1" Cat Walk:

As I said I was going to do yesterday, I pushed myself today. My arms and legs almost gave out from underneath me, but I made it to the second blue line! Personal Record. From now on, only the red line is acceptable to fall at instead of the first blue.

1.5lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. I forgot to add weight today, so they were still easy.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

It was such a beautiful, cool evening today I managed to do 14 without keeling over. Again, new PR.

Sprint Vaults:

I decided I would do 5 Kongs, 5 Speeds, 5 Lazies at full sprint. Something clicked today with these. I became completely and utterly relaxed. My strides were near silent, my hands made quiet contact with the table, everything just felt more natural. It was effortless and wonderful. It's probably the closest I've ever come to "no mind." It's a feeling that's stayed with me even now, an hour later.

Training Log: July 20, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Sprint Vaults
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning

Biking:

Hooray for biking!

1" Wall Walk:
Still fine.

1" Cat Walk:
Somewhere between blue and red. I'm going to force myself to go beyond the red line tomorrow, this lack of progress is becoming frustrating. I should definitely be to the end of the wall by now. I'm getting faster...but I want distance.

1.5lb Vaults:

10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. I'll be upping the weight tomorrow.

Lazy Vaults:
I tried the starter drills left footed. It was really difficult, and really awkward. I'll keep trying but it's uncomfortable.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

The heat was definitely the factor that kept me down yesterday. Thanks to cloud cover and a slight breeze, I made the PR today. 13 is the new set bar. It still almost killed me, but it's good.

Sprint Vaults:

I haven't put a number on it yet, but I've decided I need to practice doing these at full speed. It's a lot of fun.

6" Beam Run:

Yep.

General Conditioning:
Happened. On a side note, gave another handout today.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Training Log: July 19, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Traveling Kongs
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning
-Rolls

Biking:

I really need to get my tires pumped to full. This can't be good for my bike.

1" Wall Walk:
Some kids were playing baseball in the rink, so I told them to just keep playing and that if I got hit by their ball it was, "my own dumb fault." They said okay, and then stopped playing once I started the walk. The conversation went something like this to begin with:
Kid1: "How's he doing that?"
Kid2: "Special shoes."
Me: "Nope, just tennis shoes."
Kid1: "You in gymnastics?"
Me: "Haha, nope."
Later questions following vaults included:
"Are you going into the Army?" "Are you training for football?" Eventually I just told them it was Parkour, and gave them my two hand-outs. Which the 3 of them then fought over. Good times.

1" Cat Walk:
I actually fell off today. Sticking with my goals, even though I fell off just a few beams before the blue line, I forced myself to start over and go to the blue line again. Really, really painful.

1.5lb Vaults:

Really easy today. Maybe I just can't take a day off from them?

Lazy Vaults:
Full sprint now. I need to remember to start trying these left footed, I mention it all the time here and continually forget.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
I only got 8 today. I'm not sure why, maybe it was the heat? Who knows, but I punished myself for not getting to 12 by doing 8 more afterward. I tried to make myself do yet another 8, but I only managed 4. Sad face. Anyway, I've decided that will be the norm now. Every time I fail to make a PR, I have to do a second set of however many I made it to.

Traveling Kongs:
Still easy, still strange.

6" Beam Run:
Yep.

General Conditioning:
Cooelle.

Rolls:
Completed 5 today with zero pain or impact! Excellent, excellent news. Hopefully it'll be the same case tomorrow. It's just taking more concentration now that the other parts are muscle memory. I need to make sure I roll over my right arm instead of collapsing it, and tuck my legs tight.

Training Log: July 18, 2009

Training yesterday included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Traveling Kongs
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning

Biking:

It was cold.

1" Wall Walk:
Can almost put my hands at my sides, I dunno if I'll ever be able to run it though.

1" Cat Walk:
This was really hard yesterday for some reason. I still blue lined it, but I got off right afterward.

1.5lb Vaults:

10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. This were really difficult too. Maybe it was just the cold, gloomy weather getting to me? I managed to do them anyway, and didn't miss any, so at least I know I can perform under those conditions.

Lazy Vaults:
I'm letting these get a little too lazy. Starting to lose my form, even though I do still clear the wall with ease.

Traveling Kongs:

These are really strange. It feels like they're vaults that should happen on accident, I dunno. Not having a take-off but still getting my feet high enough to clear the table and diving into it...like I said, strange. Easy! But strange. I don't think I'll be able to get any more distance off these than I am though. That is, unless I can run on my hands for a few slaps...that'd be interesting.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

Keeping it up, new PR of 11. The space I give myself from table to end line is getting smaller and smaller, which I guess is a good thing to practice as well. It still beat the shit out of me, doing that many is really exhausting. If I think about it though, that's actually 22 vaults in a row. Up from my original 10. That's huge.

6" Beam Run:
Yep.

General Conditioning:
It happened.

Pseudo Training: July 17, 2009

Messed around near an apartment complex and park on Burnsville Parkway and Nicolette Ave. I got to really mess with a parking lot for the first time. Pop vaults off a rock into it, there's opportunity for cat leaps onto the second level (though I didn't try), wall runs on the slanted wall...all sorts of fun stuff. The small man-made creek created a lot of fun for jumps, plenty of benches available to vault, I dunno. Just a really pleasant place to mess around, I'm excited to go there when I can use my left hand liberally.

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-Cat Walks
-Kong Vaults
-Speed Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Cat Leaps
-QM
-General Conditioning

Biking:

The wind sucks. A lot.

1" Wall Walk:

The wind still sucks. A lot. But I didn't fall.

Cat Walks:

Did these at both Cherry View Park and Lake Nakomis. At CVP I got between the blue and red line. At Nakomis I cat walked my first bridge and up a slanted, slim, rounded railing a fair distance. Great practice.

Kong Vaults:

I did picnic tables at CVP as usual. At the North Park-esque place Matt, Laura, and I went to I konged tables wider and taller than the ones at CVP (which was really scary, and really fun). At Nakomis I konged a few benches.

Speed Vaults:
All the same objects I did with the kongs, plus a few rails. I also did a few of these with my backpack on, which is a ton of extra work. I barely cleared each time I did it, and over railings I would normally have no problems with.

Lazy Vaults:
CVP and the North Park-esque place. Easy. Wewt.

Cat Leaps:

Had a ton of fun with these at...I'll just call it NPE. NPN? North Park North? NPN it is. Jumped from tier to tier of railings as quickly as possible, easily the most entertaining part of our time there in addition to the new kong vaults. Ripped up my hand (I had to stifle a scream with the peroxide this evening it hurt so bad. Then again, that'll happen when I'm a moron and do QM through the dirt with an open wound).

QM:

It was short, but it was done.

General Conditioning:

Went up stairs backward and forward in QM, some slanted rail arm only climbs, push-ups, pull-ups, crunches...yep.

-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Traveling Kong
-6" Beam Run
-Rolls
-General Conditioning

Wall Runs:

Went up to MCAD today for some financial shtuffs, used the opportunity to blow off some steam on the walls. I managed to get up a 7ft marble, slick wall with no problems, which felt amazing. There was a mother and her kid going in to check out the gallery as I was practicing them, and the little guy laughed every time I went up the wall. Pretty much made my day, they stood and watched for awhile.

Lazy Vaults:
Again at MCAD, I got a chance to do lazy vaults over walls about 6" wide. Excellent practice.

Biking:
Wewt.

1" Wall Walk:

Another windy day defeated.

1" Cat Walk:
3 pillars after the red line.

1.5lb Vaults:

10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. I'm thinking about upping it to 2lbs even after just two days.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
I did it, managed 10 this time. It's really, really difficult though.

Traveling Kongs:
Still easy, still fun.

6" Beam Run:
It happened.

Rolls:
I'm starting to get really frustrated with these, but I think I'm still progressing. I didn't go on cement as I said I would earlier today, but all the parts are finally clicking together. Tight tuck, roll over shoulder instead of collapsing it, exit as forward as possible... GAH.

General Conditioning:
Yep.

Training Log: July 14, 2009

Training yesterday included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Traveling Kong
-6" Beam Run
-360° Underbar
-Rolls
-General Conditioning

Biking:
It gets harder the more shit I throw into my backpack. Go figure.

1" Wall Walk:
Ridiculously windy day. Still made it to the end, but I took my time.

1" Cat Walk:
Farther than the blue line, shorter than the red.

1.5lb Vaults:
10 Kongs, 10 Speeds, 10 Lazies. Still really hard, still really good. I'll definitely be doing these everyday. It forces me to perfect my vault technique, because if I don't do it right my legs will clip. I'll keep it at 1.5lbs for now, but I think I can put enough weights in to do 5lbs per ankle? Plenty of room to improve.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
Another personal record, 9. I've decided the goal is to try and do one better than the day before every day. These destroy me though, so I can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Traveling Kong:
New vault! It's easy. Nailed on first attempt, though admittedly learning the Kong Vault first is what made it so simple. I'll keep practicing these just because they're new and fun.

6" Beam Run:
It happened. I'm never going to keep track of how many times I run around it, I'll just go until I'm tired.

360° Underbar:
This was a weak attempt, and I'm supposed to start these at a low position instead of high. I had watched a tutorial video earlier for it, just decided to give it a try. A lower railing some other time, perhaps.

Rolls:
I feel like they're getting worse again. I'm going to try and do nothing but concrete until I get it right. Man that's gonna hurt.

General Conditioning:
Table push-ups, pull-ups with hands both ways, crunches, blah blah blah.

Training Log: July 13, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-1.5lb Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-6" Beam Run

Biking:
Yeap.

1" Wall Walk:
I got jeered at by some skater punks while doing this today. I believe the words were, "LOOKIT'IM GO! AAAAAAAAND FALL!" I ignored them, didn't fall, finished my walk, and they promptly shut-up when I started doing the cat walk. Good feeling.

1" Cat Walk:
Blue lined it.

1.5lb Vaults:

10 kong vaults, 10 speed vaults, and 10 lazy vaults with 1.5lbs on each ankle. Ridiculously tiring, but I feel like it will vastly improve everything. Not to mention how much easier vaults were after I took them off.

Lazy Vaults:
Still lazy.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
New PR again, 8 times. I almost threw up afterward, but it's good to know it was my endurance that failed me instead of my muscles and vaulting form.

6" Beam Run:

These are actually a lot of fun. Tiring, but fun.

Sunday, July 12, 2009

Training Log: July 12, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Lazy Vaults
-Rolls
-6" Beam Run
-General Conditioning

Biking:
Cooelle.

1" Wall Walk:

This has gotten to the point where it's really just mind focusing, meditative exercise. Great warm-up.

1" Cat Walk:
Again, jumped off voluntarily from muscle fatigue. Still good, getting faster.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

Personal record, 7. I found there's an optimal distance I have to get for a kong to truly waste less energy. If I'm only 2 steps away, it takes a lot more energy than 5. This should be common sense, but then I have to remember that taking steps after a vault is also wasted energy. Gotta find a happy medium. I tried doing both at a full run, I nearly missed the hand plant on the speed vaults because the table passed so quickly. For the kongs I had to slow down a bit or risk flying over and missing the hand plant there too.

Lazy Vaults:

Like the 1" Wall Walk, this has become meditative. I just practice and drill it, there's really no thought process involved. Many times today I barely remembered the process of going over the wall, just the before and after were particularly vivid. I tried one at a full run today, maintaining balance is probably the hardest part. I had to have gone at least another 5 feet forward from take-off until I managed to redirect my course.

Rolls:
Today I finally discovered the difference between collapsing my arm and rolling from it. I don't think I'll hit my shoulder hard again, now I just have to work the hip bone some more. I'm also thinking about trying to exit my roll off the blade of my left foot instead of onto the heel. This is going to take ridiculously careful timing, but it might also solve my hip bone problem. After seeing John do it yesterday, I realized how loud a sound (and how heavy and impact) that heel is actually taking. I'd prefer that not happen on a concrete drop. It works, but I think the foot blade would be better.

6" Beam Run:

I ran for a very long time today across this, several times around the perimeter. Great coordination practice.

General Conditioning:
Push-ups with my feet on the table bench and hands on the ground, crunches, pull-up, etc etc. I also realized how much harder I push myself training alone. I was out there for an hour today and could barely move after-wards, whereas we trained for an hour and a half yesterday and I didn't feel like I'd done anything. I'll have to change that.

Training Log: July 11, 2009

I trained yesterday, didn't blog. Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Rolls
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Lazy Vaults
-Cement Grabs

Biking:

Yep.

1" Wall Walk:
After doing it around the North Park perimeter with the ups and downs, this was really easy.

1" Cat Walk:
Also much easier after doing it around North Park. Another PR today, only fell off when my muscles couldn't take it anymore.

Rolls:
Did a few on asphalt again, I'm impacting the back of my shoulder really hard. I'll have to just keep bashing it over and over until I get it right. It hurts, but it's bearable. At least I'm not hitting my spine.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

I tried to focus really hard on doing them with proper form regardless of how tired I was, I think it was successful.

Lazy Vaults:

No butt scrapes or toe taps at all today. Great news. Next goal is to perfect it left footed.

Cement Grabs:

Yep. They happened.

-Kong Vaults
-Speed Vaults
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Landings
-Lazy Vaults
-Precisions
-Traceur Vision
-QM
-6" Beam Run

Laziness ensues! Matt and I did a bunch of stuff. Pretty sure I used everything I've learned aside from rolls. We both messed up our shins, Matt rather badly, but North Park was a lot of fun. It felt more like messing around than active training, but it was definitely a good workout. With time I think we'll get something a little more solid down for the sake of training aside from just going around the park, seeing what we can do. One thing new I did pull off today, I managed to Kong a low railing on several occasions, which was cooelle. It's good to know hand placement isn't nearly as hard as I thought. I've definitely got the distance ability and split-foot take-off down, now I need to work on my vertical.

Training Log: July 7, 2009

Training today included:

-Biking
-1" Wall Walk
-1" Cat Walk
-Kong Vaults
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Lazy Vaults
-6" Beam Run
-Rolls
-Wall Climb
-General Conditioning

Biking:
Pumped tires are great.

1" Wall Walk:

Still easy, even bending down to close and lock the gate someone left open before continuing on my way.

1" Cat Walk:

Spider caused me to fall off right before the blue line, so I got off and got to the blue line again. No progress, but I did essentially do it twice.

Kong Vaults:

I was in two locations today, the first was Cherry View Park where I just did these over picnic tables. Those are almost getting lazy now. The second, and much more exciting, was at Aaronson where I konged my first non-table; several boulders. I got to test my vaults at differing heights and distances, one of which was longer than the normal picnic table width. Rocks with no give are a completely different feeling, but a good one. Next step is a small target vault, like a rail.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

Still can only do 5 before I feel like dying. I'll push it for one more tomorrow. Considering both Kongs and Speeds are cake now, this shouldn't be a problem.

Lazy Vaults:
They're lazy. And easy.

6" Beam Run:
I still can't take these at a dead run, but I can do a fast jog.

Rolls:

Something bad happened to these, because I had no impact before but a little pulled muscle. Now I have impact on my shoulder and hip. No good. More video watching, here I come.

Wall Climb:
Climbed a pillar above a Korean War fighter twice. Relaxing, easy.

General Conditioning:
Raised leg push-ups, hanging sit-ups, assisted one arm push-ups, just a bunch of random stuff.

Training Log: July 3-6

Training at the cabin included:

-Cat Leaps
-Kong-to-Speed Rotations
-Cat Walk
-Wall Walk
-Wall Run
-Speed Vaults
-Lazy Vaults
-QM
-Finger/Toe Grips
-Rolls
-Run
-Banlieue 13

Cat Leaps:
Never really done these before, so I kept it simple. Just jumped off a rock onto a keystone wall repeatedly. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, I'm sure I could pull it off on a smooth wall. Grabbing the top of the wall without slipping was simple, for some reason I thought it was going to be extremely difficult. Admittedly this could be because the keystone offered better support from my legs? We'll see.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
Found a picnic table at the 4th of July fireworks wider than what I'm accustomed to, and made it over with ease. I only had 2 running steps before the take-off to make it over, and they were still easy. I recently read on a forum a way to work up to the length of the picnic table, suggesting that I add obstacles in front of the table. I'll have to give that a try.

Cat Walk:
Thick, round, wooden beam cat walk. It had to be done just to remain in practice, but it was extremely easy.

Wall Walk:

Same beam, same effort.

Wall Run:
Up the keystone again, same as last time I was up there. It was fun to do the two tiers one after the next again though.

Speed Vaults:
Did a few of these over a small railing to a 1' drop. Really just worked on muscle memory, I can't improve these over such a small obstacle. It was smooth though.

Lazy Vaults:
Same railing, same effort.

QM:

I did these beasts backwards up concrete block steps. It really, really, hurt my muscles but I felt great when I reached the top. I nearly slipped off to go headfirst down the stairs a few times (concrete block steps = short and high) so that was doubtlessly a driving force to complete it.

Finger/Toe Grips:

I stood in the middle of the keystone wall, gripping my fingertips and toes on the 1/2" available. Then, I did squats. Didn't notice the muscle burn as much when I was concentrating so hard on not slipping off the wall, but it was definitely a good workout.

Rolls:

There's still something wrong here. I don't have impact anymore, but my leg gets stretched really weird when I come out of the roll. I'm pretty sure it's not a flexibility issue, so I'm just going to have to play with its exit some more?

Run:
By far the most satisfying experience up north this long weekend. At the 4th of July fireworks there was an elementary school with a really nice North Park-esque playground on it. I won't go into extreme detail, but I basically started at one end and made my way to the other at a dead run while vaulting, jumping, and PK landing the whole way non-stop. So good. I can't wait to do this in an urban environment.

Banlieue 13:

Movie starring David Belle and a lot of Pakour with Martial Arts. I had it for 6 days, I watched it 3.5 times. It's not that it was an amazing movie with substance, they bashed me over the head with a giant morality pan liberally throughout, but the action scenes were amazing. Not to mention, I think the longest I had to wait for one was maybe 10 minutes? 15 tops? Anyway, Parkour + Ass-Kickery = Epic any day for me, so it's an instant favorite. Not to mention it's in French. Bonus.

Biking:

First time in a few days, I think my tires are flat again. I don't know when the last time is they were completely full which is terrible for the bike, I should really look into that. On the other hand, it's a much better work-out, haha.

1" Wall Walk:

Still solid, just need to get even faster.

1" Cat Walk:

Acceptable. A little after the blue line. Not a personal record, but acceptable.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:

I can do 5 in a row before I feel like dying (that's 5 Kongs and 5 Speed vaults every other vault). I did 5 repetitions of it. The great news is, I can do Kongs with minimal speed now just fine and I did it off the more stable slippery table this time. I can feel my vaults deteriorate with each pass though, muscle fatigue definitely kicks in. I still clear the object but get closer and closer to clipping my feet. It starts to take a lot more willpower and concentration.

Lazy Vault:

Still clearing just fine, but for some reason my left hand plant on the follow-through always pulls my shoulder muscle. I don't think I'm doing anything too strange with it, so it doesn't make sense to me. I stretch before I even do the wall walk, so that shouldn't be a problem. I'll just have to pay closer attention to what I'm doing next time.

Traceur Vision:

I didn't do as much of this today, as my palm is not completely healed yet. The last thing I need is to send another wood chip deeper into the cut already there. I could wear my biking gloves to do it, but that just seems ridiculous. Band-Aids tend to come off mid cat-walk. I think I might be able to put this to use more in a different environment too.

Other Notes:

Going to the cabin tomorrow. This means no training log updates until Monday with an exception of a possible log tomorrow. Hopefully I can find some good spots up north aside from wall running up and jumping off the tiers to the beach. We're probably going into town on the 4th, that could provide some interesting opportunities.

Training Log: June 30, 2009

Training today included:

- 1" Wall Walk
- 1" Cat Walk
- Kong-to-Speed Rotations
- Lazy Vault
- Traceur Vision
- 6" Beam Run

1" Wall Walk:
Still faster.

1" Cat Walk:

Not a personal record, but I made it an acceptable distance.

Kong-to-Speed Rotations:
This is a new routine. Since learning I can speed vault a picnic table, I now do Kongs across one way and Speeds back to the other side continually until I run out of breath. It's a great drill, and one I fully intend to continue.

Lazy Vault:

Now that I know for sure I can clear the fence with minimal effort and at a good speed, it's time to play with how much power I can put behind it. Maybe I can find an even higher fence o_o

Traceur Vision:
I did it some more today, it ended up turning more into a workout regimen than just seeing how fast I could get from one place to the next, but it was still good.

6" Beam Run:
This just entailed running on the railroad ties that boarder the full perimeter of the park. I figure, if I want to run on the 1" eventually I need to get running practice down to begin with.

Training Log: June 29, 2009

Training today included:

- 1" Wall Walk
- 1" Cat Walk
- Rolls
- Kong Vaults
- Lazy Vaults
- Traceur Vision
- Speed Vaults
- Keystone wall climb

1" Wall Walk:

Even faster now, speed walk.

1" Cat Walk:
I just couldn't do it today, I don't know why. I think a big part of it was not biking to the park today, my muscles just didn't have the appropriate warm-up. I'll have to remember to do some push-ups and squats after I get to the park next time I don't bike.

Rolls:
These also felt really off today. More modifications are definitely needed. On the plus side, as I drove around grabbing job applications I watched for good practice parks. One I found had some really strange, really nice padding all around the playground. Perfect place to practice rolls, or any landing really. I'll definitely be taking Matt/Derek/John there next time.

Kong Vaults:

I've finally reached the point where I don't even think about it, I just go. I vaulted back and forth across the table 5 times, the only rest being the jog after each vault to the other starting point. At the same park I found the good rolling pad, I konged a completely new table without any testing. It was pretty clean, especially considering it was on a hill at a really strange angle.

Lazy Vaults:
Still pretty easy, still drilling them. Just gotta keep it up.

Traceur Vision:
This entailed just standing at the playground, picking a point, and mapping out the fastest way to get there. The goal is to do this now at every training session in as many different points as possible, to try and get it to the point where I don't have to think. This should teach me how to chain my techniques together better. On one of the attempts, however, I whiffed a lazy vault to 5 foot drop. It wasn't terrible, but it did throw me off balance. The resulting landing buried a wood chip pretty deep into the palm of my hand. Thankfully, all the callous I've built up caused most of the damage to be done to nothing but skin tissue. Bled a little, nothing serious. It did prevent me from doing two handed vaults, though, until I could clip off what skin I couldn't just peel.

Speed Vaults:

These were pretty much my only one handed choice for vaults. BUT! Because I didn't want to keep doing benches I attempted two new things. I tried the rink fence (which I made it over at Dakota Heights Park), and whiffed it. My knee has a nice scrape on it now, but that's definitely nothing new. I'll have to work on my vertical more for that to happen. HOWEVER, I did manage to speed vault the picnic table many many times. So that's cool.

Keystone Wall Climb:
So, that new park with the soft ground is behind the restaurant Enjoy. Also behind Enjoy is a little pond. And the retaining wall that keeps Enjoy and the strip mall from slipping into the pond is very long, and pretty high. So I did what any rational rock climbing starved human being would do and um...climbed it. I just moved along the retaining wall until I was at about the middle of the wall/pond, and when I felt like my forearms were going to fail me and send me into the muck I pulled myself up. Excellent exercise. I hope it was legal, I mean to call the city and find out in the next few days. I'm pretty sure it's public, but better safe than sorry.
